Warning Signs
Victims of domestic violence or sexual assault may show the following signs:
- Symptoms of depression or anxiety
- Panic attacks, sleeplessness, or suicidal feelings
- Post-traumatic stress reactions
- Feelings of isolation
- Drugs and/or alcohol abuse
- Bruises, grab marks, lacerations, or fractures
- Repeat visits to the emergency room with chronic injuries or vague complaints
An abusive spouse or partner may
- Insist on staying close
- Be overly solicitous or eager to explain the victim’s injuries
