Are your services free?
Yes, all services for survivors are provided at no cost.
Who does the WRC serve?
We serve all victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking, no matter gender, age, race, socioeconomic status, etc...
Can men survivors access services through the WRC?
Yes. We provide services to all people who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or stalking.
Are there volunteer opportunities?
The WRC has multiple ways in which community members can become involved with the organization and with the movement. Click the "Get Involved
" link in the menu bar to learn more.
Are your services confidential?
Yes, all services provided by the WRC are confidential. An exception is made in instances of alleged child abuse (see “Are you mandated reporters?” for further information).
Are you a shelter?
No, the Women’s Resource Center is not a shelter. We are able to assist individuals seeking shelter obtain a safe place to stay.
Can you help me find housing?
We are unable to search out and find housing that is available. Although we do have a resource list of possible housing options in the area.
Are you counselors?
Advocates on staff with the WRC are not licensed counselors. We can offer resources to licensed counselors in the area if that is what you are seeking.
Do you give survivors advice?
As advocates, we are here to provide survivors with possible options and resources. Survivors ultimately know what is best for them. Advocates are here support them and to help guide them through the process.
Are you attorneys?
We do not have legal training, nor do we have an attorney on staff. We do however have basic knowledge of the justice system and can provide support as you may interact with the system, through criminal actions stemming from domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking as well as civil processes such as obtaining and HRO or OFP. Please contact the WRC if you have questions about the justice system. We cannot give legal advice.
Do you have a support group?
Yes. We currently offer a Women’s Support Group. It meets once a week. It is a trauma informed, peer guided support group. Please contact the WRC if interested in joining!
What services do you provide to children?
We provide all advocacy services to the children in Winona County affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or stalking. Although as advocates we are mandated reporters (please see “Are you mandated reporters?” for more information). Along with advocacy services we provide educational services to the children in Winona County. Please contact us if you are interested in an educational presentation.
Are you mandated reporters?
Yes. All services through the Women’s Resource Center are confidential with an important exception. If abuse of a child is alleged, we by law must report that to Child Protective Services.
Do you have bilingual staff?
To meet the needs of those who do not speak English, we partner with Project FINE to provide interpreting services.
